Tim is the Senior Hydrogeologist for Fortis IBA. The Hydrogeology team undertake an environmental assessment for every infrastructure contract where customers are looking to use Fortis IBA Aggregate. They look out for relevant site information to ensure every site we supply is suitable for its use and that Fortis can maintain the highest environmental standards.
“I love that my role allows me to indulge my love of maps as we cover many sites throughout the South, Southeast Midlands of England. I get to build up a picture of the geology, geomorphology and water movement in the ground and how it supports our water resources and precious ecosystems. The modelling side of groundwater and surface water risk assessment is quite detailed and numerical – it suits someone who has a love of numbers, maths and detail. If you like number puzzles and can appreciate a good equation, you would probably enjoy hydrogeological modelling! Of course this is all for a good reason – as it allows us to supply Fortis IBA Aggregate as a more sustainable alternative construction aggregate, knowing that it is going to be used responsibly and will not have any adverse impact in the environment
Another great aspect of my job is that it allows me to connect with researchers and other practitioners trying to help move us to a more Circular Economy. It is good to find new ideas that can maximise how we turn waste into a resource, and try to feed them back into what we do day-to-day. There is plenty of room for innovation and that’s exciting to be part of.”
