Nick has worked for the business for four years. He also heads up the Group’s Environmental Committee, which meets on a regular basis to promote new initiatives.
“I love the variety of my role and being able to spend time outside. The most important thing about what I do is working with the business to reduce our CO2 emissions and improve our sites as natural habitats for wildlife.
I first worked with the business in my summers at college and university, this gave me a chance to work in many areas of the business and it was my first time working with IBA Aggregate. Once I started my work with the Environmental and Technical Department, it was very interesting to see and work with both IBA Aggregate processing facilities and the Raymond Brown quarries at the same time, learn from both, and share the best elements of each with the other.
Being involved with Fortis and the continual development of IBA Aggregate as a low carbon recycled aggregate has been very challenging and rewarding, especially to see the carbon savings and how much non-renewable primary aggregate we can save.
If you like the outdoors and can apply yourself to different problems then the industry will welcome you with open arms. As for advice, never underestimate the power of cake in a health and safety meeting!”
