Luke manages the Fortis team at the processing facility at Ardley ERF which achieves circa 60,000 tonnes per annum.

“I enjoy the variety of my role. One day I could be operating mobile plant and the next I could be meeting with ERF operations management to discuss operations and stakeholder management.

Everyday has its challenges and no two days are the same which brings its own unique opportunities for learning. I also get great satisfaction that the IBA we process has been diverted from landfill and the metals we recover are then recycled which subsequently reduces raw metal extractions.

I am passionate about exploring new technology that can help improve metal recovery and subsequently improve the quality of IBA Aggregate. Going forwards, I think it is important that we continue to invest in the site team, developing them to be multi-skilled.

For those wanting to get into the industry, there are at least 90 incinerators in the UK and 50 more proposed or in development, so the waste/recycling industry is growing and has varied careers and opportunities.”
