Hydrogeologist

Alex is a Hydrogeologist for Fortis IBA. The Hydrogeology team undertake an environmental assessment for every infrastructure contract where customers are looking to use Fortis IBA Aggregate. They look out for relevant site information to ensure every site we supply is suitable for its use and that Fortis can maintain the highest environmental standards.

“My career to date has seen me work for a large-scale civil engineering consultancy as well as a Geo-environmental and Geo-technical consultancy. What both of these roles had in common was an understanding that building an accurate conceptual model of a site was a key building block in delivering an exceptional product to our clients.  My job role with Fortis allows me the opportunity to develop great conceptual models, looking at Geology, Geomorphology, historic mapping and any other resources at our disposal to build an accurate understanding of how our product will interact with the natural environment.

The knowledge that we are working hard and continually striving to provide sustainable construction solutions through the supply of a secondary and manufactured  aggregates rather than the need to import primary aggregates makes the work even more satisfying. Every Risk assessment that is approved is another potential site that we can supply a high-quality sustainable aggregate to.

I have personally witnessed the environmental impact of primary aggregate and believe it is of utmost importance that we try and use secondary and manufactured aggregate wherever possible.  The narrative of a circular economy is slowly becoming a reality, but there is a lot left to do and I feel proud that I can be part of this innovation going forward.”
